Fruit Compote

Fruit Compote

I love cycling in autumn because I always find tons of fruits. A downside is that the nights are much longer but you can keep yourself busy cooking a fruit compote in the long evenings! Makes a great desert (alone or with Rice Pudding) or topping for your next morning’s porridge.

  1. cut fruits into small cubes
  2. add water or sugar
    1. in the case of berries: add some sugar and let rest for up to 30 mins: the juice will come out and help you not to burn the fruits
    2. in the case of apples/other: add some water to your pot (maybe half a cm high)
  3. cook the fruits together with your additional ingredients
  4. let cook for as long as you want. The longer, the more the fruits fall apart. For apples it takes about 20-30 minutes.
  • other fruits that come to my mind: pears, peaches, cherries, …
  • if you want to make proper jam - that’s possible, too! Just use much more sugar (e.g. 1:2 sugar-fruit-ratio) and cook for a full hour. If you cook a peeled, chopped apple with the fruits, your jam may even become jelly-like, because of the high pectin content of apples!

…and don’t forget to squeeze your lemon.
